The Basics and Benefits of Breast Lift Surgery
Breast lift surgery—which is widely known as a breast lift or boob lift—raises and firms the breasts by eliminating excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue to balance the new breast contour. A woman’s breasts may eventually lose their skin elasticity due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight fluctuations, and aging.
To prepare for a breast lift, you will be given a medical evaluation and some prescribed medications. You will also be advised to get baseline mammograms, one before surgery and another afterwards to detect any future changes in your breast tissue.
The procedure itself begins with administering anesthesia. Once the painkillers have taken effect, the surgeon makes three incisions. One is made around just the areola, the other is made vertically down from the areola to the breast crease, and the last pattern is created horizontally, along the breast crease.
After the surgeon makes the incisions, he or she reshapes the breasts by lifting the underlying breast tissue and improving the breast contour and firmness. The nipple and areola are adjusted to a natural height, and the enlarged areolas are reduced by excising the skin at the perimeter of necessary.
